Complainers (Dove Ads)
I complain a lot when I blog; somehow, critiquing seems to come naturally with the medium. So, I understand the impulse. And, yet, I think this guy is some sort of complaint and anger masochist. Why? Well he's done two posts critiquing Doves' real beauty campaign. You know, the ones with the empowered ordinary people. I think I posted on it ages ago and said a couple of the women in the first ad were lookers, or something like that. Anyway, this guy's complaining about them as corporate chicanery (their parent company makes Axe body spray and Slim Fast!)
He also mentions he's received thousands of angry letters. Well, duh, dude. Take it from a married guy... some things are just ladystuff and guys don't need to have opinions on it. So, if this post had a point, it would be this excerpt:
Well, even bargain basement porn features still have professional lighting, editing, etc. This is some lady in the shower (not the best lit room) and some other person filming her with a camcorder. I think the ad is cute and sexy and the woman in question is quite attractive.
What do YOU think?

By contrast, this Dove ad is just atrocious. It uses a cheap video camera and murky lighting, and stars an average-looking woman being filmed as she takes a shower. The result bears a queasy resemblance to amateur pornography—though I'm told that even bargain-basement porn features flashier production values and more compelling actresses
