Pandagon still has jumped the shark but I still kinda like it, II

If you haven't read part I, scroll down.

...

Now that we've gotten rid of the riff-raff, I'll complain about the other side of things.

For instance, the otherwise very interesting and well-argued post I just linked to ends a little oddly:

College-educated straight women who choose to live with a partner and postpone getting married — you’re on the Dominionist to-do list, since your numbers have grown sharply, according to the research.

The desire for gays and lesbians to marry has nothing to do with the commitment issues troubling the Roaches, or the fact that the trend of heterosexual couples procreating outside of marriage has been steadily increasing since WWII. Alas, we (along with those “wanton women”) are at the top of the culture warrior’s list.

Er, I'm unaware of the 'make college-educated straight women marry their partners' movement that's sweeping the nation and embaressing conservatives everywhere with its ocassional excesses. This seems like a bit more of a reversion to type, I fear. That's one thing I don't like about avowedly ideological blogs... they never get far from the talking points.

Also, this entry hurts my head a bit. The subject is The Right, naturally.

At this point, they’ve devolved into a mob of people who see anything good or interesting or worthy and want to take a giant piss all over it out of mean-spirited jealousy. Not that this childish behavior surprises me one bit anymore—being on the receiving end of the right wing noise machine will demonstrate pretty well that they have zero compunction about lying or engaging in other utterly immoral behavior. And at this point, it’s not even to win, really. I’d say they’re more motivated at this point by the irresistible urge to piss off liberals and be pains in the ass.

The subject? Some weirdos on Second Life (some would call that an oxymoron, but that's just inherited snobbery and the result of seeing some skeevy screen caps--I really have no idea) went and dumped a bunch of stuff on Edwards' virtual campaign center. Why anyone would take this seriously (real vandalization happens with some regularity in the nasty world of politics, for one thing) instead of dismissing it as a bunch of weird teenagers, I don't know...

But, Amanda works quickly to tie it into gang rape and such cos that's pretty much what she does. What's strange, of course, is that Amanda has become a bit infamous for accusing others of feigning moral outrage: click here to see very shaky documentation extensively associating A.M. and 'pearl-clutching.'

So, you know, virtual vandalization is wild and over the top, but making gross bodily functions humor about religious beliefs would only offend 'pearl clutchers'.

The comments section is a little funny--one reader is apparently a little too used to the usual and sort of randomly accuses right wingers of being pearl clutchers (odd, given the post being a complaint about nasty things right wingers do and being a little pearl clutching itself). Also, people seem unable to recognize a walrus with giant testicles for some reason. Not that that's relevant in any way.

Eh, anyway, real world is intruding (better be ready for the real world to stop intruding and start hitting with a giant bat one of these months) so I'll make a long story short. I like Pandagon when the people there (especially A.M. herself) are writing about interesting things in the news and commenting on things. However, I don't like it when they get on aut-pilot, which they tend to do a little too often. But such is the internet. I still read A.M. and not, say, Hugh Hewitt, so there you go, maybe.
